We began filming for our Omar Sosa documentary and had a great shoot in NYC at the Blue Note! Everyone there was super helpful. The music was gorgeous as always. Joseph Placide was so energetic and inspiring to talk to about music in general. The Ethiopian Millennium project on the horizon is a must do. Only someone like Joe could pull this off.
Had a super fast felafel dinner with Doug and his fiance’ Eleni who was beautiful. They’re so perfect with each other. Finished up with a quick cappuccino at Cafe’ Reggio one of Michelle and my favorite places in NYC.
Hung with the band afterwards and drank some wine across the street. Spent most of my time learning about Childo and what it was like coming up in Mozambique- what a beautiful person...
In the morning met Scott and Michael Stone, the Latin Studies professor at Princeton at Le Gamin for a delicious breakfast of crepes. Michael is a tremendous wealth of knowledge and has so much to offer. His work on the Garifuna is fascinating.
Spent the late morning and afternoon with Omar. Discussing music off course, spirituality the state of the world, children. Omar is an exceptional personal with a huge heart and a tremendous dedication to bettering the world through his music. One thing he said that I have always deeply agreed with is, “it good to be a great musician but it’s better to be a great person”. We talked about scheduling the trip to Cuba to film his family and his past.
Barcelona, Sardinia and France are the next locations. I’m looking forward to filming the Tenores project.
